Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc. (LASSD) became a Live Well San Diego recognized partner on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. To thousands of San Diego residents living in poverty, justice is not an abstract ideal. It is food, shelter and protection. It is the difference between staying in poverty and getting out; between being dependent and self-reliant. But without help, justice is often denied. As a Live Well San Diego recognized partner, Legal Aid Society of San Diego will continue their work to provide low-income clients with free civil legal assistance, including legal advice and counsel, effective referrals, and legal representation and extend their commitment to help their staff and clients become more healthy, safe, and thriving.
Over 1 million of our 3 million County residents live in Economic Hardship (at or below 200% of the federal poverty limit). These residents lack the funds to meet all of their basic needs, let alone pay for a lawyer. For 96 years, The Office of Public Attorney, now the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, has steadfastly provided free professional legal services to families and individuals unable to hire a lawyer.
LASSD fights for justice for all residents, empowers clients to access and effectively participate within the legal, governmental and social systems, and encourages self-empowerment in the fight against poverty and injustice.
Legal Aid Society of San Diego is committed to continuing to advance Live Well San Diego by improving the quality of life for individuals and families struggling with poverty and lack of access and empowers them to take positive actions for their own health, safety and well-being.
