Meals on Wheels San Diego County became a recognized partner of Live Well San Diego on January 24, 2017. Since 1960, Meals on Wheels has been devoted to the health, safety and well-being of San Diego seniors. Meals on Wheels is the only agency providing meals for 7 days a week, including holidays. Deliveries cover the entire county, including the over 3,049 square miles of rural and unincorporated areas.
Meals on Wheels relies on their thousands of thoughtful volunteers to keep services up and running. Their large and caring workforce not only delivers food, but also does safety checks on the seniors they visit each day. Frequently, the volunteer may be the only person the senior sees all day, providing human contact and a safety net, particularly for those seniors living alone. Lives are saved nearly every week as a result of acquiring the proper emergency personnel for someone who has fallen, had a stroke, or is simply in need of additional resources.
Meals on Wheels resolved to support the Live Well San Diego vision through their commitment to partnering with aligned organizations, adding services and building partnerships to ensure seniors in San Diego County not only have nutritious, high quality meals, but community and support as well.
