ProduceGood joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 15, 2017. ProduceGood addresses food insecurity through programs and activities aimed at finding sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger, reclaim and repurpose food waste and promote the health and well-being of our community – all of which are key components to Live Well San Diego.
ProduceGood engages volunteers to help individuals and families thrive by gleaning and recovering fresh fruits and vegetables (that would otherwise go to waste) for the San Diego food distribution outlets that feed those in need throughout the county.
Their first program, CropSwap, began in 2010 as a local grassroots effort and has been the cornerstone program of ProduceGood’s mission since their incorporation in 2014. Through the work of their 300 amazing volunteers, they have provided 300,000 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables for food insecure individuals throughout the county.
In 2016, they launched the First Pick program to give companies and organizations the opportunity to sponsor group gleans as a service activity. They also opened up a new supply channel through the Bumper Crop program, which rescues and packages produce from small farms to benefits those in need.
In 2017, they opened up a third supply channel by recovering unsold food from Farmer’s Markets in San Diego County.
ProduceGood is committed to advancing the Live Well San Diego vision by continuing to find sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger and promoting the health and well-being of our community.
