The Skinny Gene Project

The Skinny Gene Project joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on Oct 7, 2017.  Since its founding as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 2009, the Skinny Gene Project has made it its mission to increase access and availability to evidence-based, diabetes prevention programs throughout San Diego County.

The Skinny Gene Project has the unique distinction of being the first organization in San Diego, and the third in the state of California, to be recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for maintaining high standards of excellence in providing programs that prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.  The Skinny Gene Project is one of the few organizations in the country to receive this recognition in two consecutive years.

In addition to partnering with community clinics, centers and organizations, such as Vista Community Clinic, The San Diego American Indian Health Clinic, Be There San Diego, YMCA of San Diego County, and Champions for Health, the Skinny Gene Project collaborates with the California Department of Public Health, and other state and national organizations, to help shape policies and advocate for diabetes prevention.
