Founded in 1999, Solutions for Change aims to solve family homelessness – one family, one community at a time. Founders Chris and Tammy Megison began making a plan to solve family homelessness. Their model was different because did not include more shelter beds, feeding programs, or traditional social services, but rather it was an audacious plan to create access to permanent solutions using a hybrid model that they developed.
Solutions for Change creates access to the right set of opportunities for families and then equips them with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to permanently solve their homelessness. The three pillars of the Solutions for Change program are Solutions University, Solutions Enterprises, and Solutions in the Community. Solutions University offers life transforming programs and Solutions Enterprises is a collection of social enterprises that empower residents to earn a living. Solutions in the Community is the investment by residents of time and effort to help the community of which they are a part.
On May 7th, 2013 the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, San Marcos, Oceanside and Vista issued a proclamation that recognized Solutions for Change for its positive results and adopted the Solutions for Change Transformational Housing Model to solve homelessness in these five cities.
