Words Alive joined Live Well San Diego as a Recognized Partner on October 4, 2016. Established in 1999, Words Alive provides essential literacy services to underserved students and families. The organization was founded on the belief that reading is fundamentally connected to all aspects of one’s life, helps people thrive as a lifelong learner and prepares people to transform their community.
Words Alive provides integrated literacy programming for students and families through their three primary programs: Read Aloud, Teen Services and Family Literacy. They serve over 5,500 at-risk students and families monthly at more than 200 sites and classrooms in our community.
Words Alive works with several partners and agencies to offer their literacy programming within Child Development Centers, Head Start campuses, state-funded preschools and alternative high school classrooms through Momentum Learning (formerly Juvenile Court and Community Schools).
Words Alive is committed to advancing the Live Well San Diego vision by continuing to make reading matter for numerous children, teens and adults throughout San Diego County and beyond.
