2-1-1 San Diego joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 29, 2014. 2-1-1 San Diego became a Live Well San Diego partner due to their role in San Diego County as a resource and information hub that connects people with community, health and disaster services. 2-1-1 San Diego’s service includes substance abuse treatment, care for children or aging parents, reporting graffiti, food assistance, and housing and financial assistance. Information is available 24/7 through a stigma-free, confidential phone service, as well as a searchable online database at www.211sandiego.org. 2-1-1 San Diego connects residents with live, highly-trained representatives, and all information is confidential and available in more than 200 languages. Representatives work with callers to assess their needs and match them to the most appropriate and closest resources in their communities in a timely, compassionate and efficient manner. 2-1-1 has also built in additional services in partnership with the County of San Diego and local organizations to help clients connect to services more effectively, including providing over-the-phone application assistance for programs such as SDG&E discount assistance, CalFresh supplemental food benefits and Medi-Cal health coverage for residents in San Diego County who have difficulty accessing these services through other channels. 2-1-1 San Diego is also changing their culture from within by providing healthy food options for staff, wellness courses, a self-care room designated for mental health breaks, and a “Mother’s Room” for mothers breastfeeding their babies. In fact, 2-1-1 San Diego received the 2012 Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace award from the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition.
2-1-1 San Diego has a long history as an active member of the Live Well San Diego Central Region Leadership Team. This collaboration prompted the creation of a Live Well San Diego Interactive Resource Mapping Tool for the zip code areas of 92102, 92105, 92114, 92115, with the goal of improving access to health and social services within these Central Region communities. As an active member of the Live Well San Diego South Region Building Better Systems subcommittee, 2-1-1 San Diego also helped create and launch the Referral Pathway Tool for Home Visitation Programs for at-risk pregnant women and young children in need of referrals. Moving forward, 2-1-1 San Diego is committed to providing trainings to community organizations and groups that would like to maximize the use of the Central Region 2-1-1 San Diego interactive maps to better serve client needs.
