Heaven’s Windows joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on August 7, 2015. Heaven’s Windows is a nonprofit network and charitable organization based in East County San Diego that promotes available resources and provides support and emergency services for residents with hunger relief, nutrition education, advocacy and community service. They strive to bring resources to families, the homeless, refugees, single adults and youth by offering a range of services and partnering with other organizations with similar goals.
Heaven’s Windows became a Live Well San Diego partner by being the largest food bank distribution site and distributor in East County - providing 2,000 bags of food and serving 1,500 families a month. They educate food distribution participants about the CalFresh food assistance program and advocate for hunger issues in the community. Heaven’s Windows provides hot meals once a week to homeless individuals and families through the Seasoned with Love Hot Meals program and to homebound seniors and disabled adults through the Heaven on Wheels program. They partner with New Season’s Church to hold a “Season of Love” Community Block party during the Thanksgiving holiday to provide several thousand pounds of produce and several hundred turkeys to families and individuals in need.
Heaven’s Windows also offers other programs to those in need. They serve as a host agency to provide employment training to low-income seniors over 55 years of age and offer volunteer opportunities at their warehouse. In addition, they partner with the Spring Valley County Library and San Diego County Parks and Recreation for the “Back to School Jam”, which hosts over 2,500 attendees and distributes over 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children.
Heaven’s Windows is reaching out to unite the diverse population of East County by bringing a message of hope and a sense of community to the region. Their programs, resources and efforts help those facing food insecurity to find relief. Heaven’s Windows looks forward to future collaborations in support of the Live Well San Diego vision because “working together to serve is the answer towards making a difference.”
