Chula Vista Community Collaborative

On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, Chula Vista Community Collaborative (CVCC) was officially welcomed as a Live Well San Diego partner. The designation honored CVCC for their dedication to the principles and mission of Live Well San Diego.

CVCC continues to work towards improving self-sufficiency, homelessness, access to health and social service and advocacy through a network of Family Resource Centers and their Promotoras programs. CVCC has partnered with the County’s Live Well San Diego South Region Leadership Team on several key community efforts, specifically the Healthy Eating, Active Communities grant, Safe Routes to Schools grant, and Healthy Works grant.  They also built a network of five Family Resource Centers located on Chula Vista Elementary School District school and Sweetwater Union High School  campuses, launched an extensive Promotoras program known as Promotoras Active for Community, and host workshops called “Es Dificil Ser Mujer” – Its Difficult Being a Woman for Latinas in the community. These workshops address depression and mental health and specifically targets Latinas.  CVCC partners with the San Diego Prevention Research Center on the Familias Sanas Y Activas Program, where physical activity classes are offered at specific community sites within Chula Vista.

CVCC is committed to continuing to advance Live Well San Diego and plans to continue embracing the initiative's strategic approaches in the following ways:

  • Building a Better Service Delivery System through continuing to outreach and assist the community in applying for CalFresh benefits while promoting healthy eating
  • Supporting Positive Choices by providing nutrition education and social determinants of health awareness to local school parents and identifying potential funding to continue to support Promotoras programs
  • Pursuing Policy and Environmental Change through continued participation on key community efforts such as the Healthy Weight Collaborative
