El Cajon El Cajon has also established several programs to enhance public safety, including the very successful Crime-Free Hotel/Motel and Crime-Free Multi-Housing programs, Police Citizen Academies, and year-round Emergency Preparedness and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes.

The City of El Cajon values its relationship with Cajon Valley Union School District and is dedicated to partnering with them on Safe Routes to School Projects to improve walkability and encourage pedestrian safety. The City encourages residents to be active by maintaining eighteen parks and seven recreational facilities, which offer various programs for all ages.  Moreover, the City has built five playgrounds over the past three years in partnership with KaBOOM and First 5 San Diego.
