San Diego Unified School District

San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on July 23, 2015. SDUSD became a Live Well San Diego partner because of their efforts to create system-wide changes resulting in direct benefits to the health and wellness of students and staff. SDUSD is making school lunches healthier and more nutritious for students through community partnerships with local farmers. Additionally, the SDUSD is committed to the health and wellness of its employees by supporting advances in lactation environments, adopting a lactation accommodation resolution in 2011.

SDUSD has taken great strides to ensure the safety of students within the district. SDUSD has incorporated Safe Routes to School language into its school wellness policy, and works to increase the safety of children walking and biking to school through programs that promote physical activity, increase parental and community involvement and reduce traffic congestion.

Through participation in the FACES San Diego program, SDUSD has also collaborated with Rady Children’s Hospital, Hoover High School and the County of San Diego, to allow high school interns interested in a career in the health care field an opportunity to interact with health professionals.

SDUSD is committed to continuing its efforts in support of successful programs that uphold the health and wellness of students, staff and families and contribute to healthy, safe and thriving communities.
