FIRST 5 SAN DIEGO ENCOURAGES YOUTH TO 'READ ACROSS AMERICA'

First 5 San Diego’s Executive Director Kim Gallo and Assistant Executive Director Gloria Corral-Terrazas participated in Read Across America Day by reading a book to the students at the Child Development Associates’ The Parks Child Development Center in National City. All students at the Child Development Center received a book to encourage reading at home.

Read Across America Day was established in 1998 by the National Education Association as a celebration of reading. Reading events are held throughout America on March 2nd each year in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This year marked the 112th birthday of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America’s 19th annual celebration.

First 5 San Diego’s goal is that all children ages 0 to 5 are healthy, loved, and nurtured and enter school as active learners. First 5 San Diego encourages parents and caretakers to talk, read, and sing throughout the day with their kids in an effort to stimulate early literacy and language development.
