To help families get and stay physically active it’s important to set goals that everyone in the family can accomplish together. That’s the idea behind this year’s Let’s Move Olympics organized by Neighborhood House Association’s Head Start program. All of the event’s activities were designed to be simple, requiring little to no equipment, to encourage families to get active and exercise together.
The Olympic celebration kicked off with a parade of international flags created by the Head Start centers and continued with music and movement led by Neighborhood House Association Team Member Charles Wilson, along with an exercise demonstration led by personal trainer Mike Cothrine. Participants took part in several non-competitive physical fitness activities to get them up and moving.
As part of the event, Neighborhood House Association recognized First 5 San Diego and Live Well San Diego for encouraging employees, families, and children of Neighborhood House Association’s Head Start programs to eat healthy and stay physically active.
Dozens of families participated in the event and enjoyed a morning of fun physical fitness on the Lincoln High School football field. Once the families finished a full round of activities, they were awarded Let’s Move Olympic medals for all their hard work.
