The Gary and Mary West Foundation joined Live Well San Diego as a Recognized Partner on October 5, 2016. The Gary and Mary West Foundation works to enable seniors to successfully age in place, with access to high-quality, affordable health and support services that preserve and protect their dignity, quality of life and independence.
Since 2006, the Gary and Mary West Foundation has awarded nearly $133 million to senior-focused community organizations and nonprofits within San Diego County to enable successful aging. It is only one out of six nonprofit, non-operating foundations dedicated to age-related issues in the nation.
In May 2016, the foundation provided the University of California San Diego with $11.8 million to create the state-of-the-art Gary and Mary West Senior Emergency Care Unit at UC San Diego Health to provide enhanced acute care for seniors. They provided more than $8 million to support San Diego’s low-income seniors with the opening and ongoing funding of the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center located in downtown San Diego, which provides access to more than 30 nonprofits that deliver nutrition, social and wellness services. In June 2016, the foundation funded $1.8 million to open the Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center to provide affordable oral healthcare with a suite of community-based wellness and social services.
The Gary and Mary West Foundation is committed to continuing to advance the Live Well San Diego vision through the development of senior-specific healthcare delivery models that are high-quality, affordable, scalable, sustainable and can be replicated throughout the nation.
