Kaiser Permanente joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on October 21, 2014. Kaiser has a legacy of total health, prevention and wellness dating back to the 1940s. Their official designation as a Live Well San Diego partner reinforced their commitment to creating healthy communities. Some of their efforts to support the Live Well San Diego vision include funding the San Diego Childhood Obesity Initiative to fight childhood obesity; promoting active lifestyles for seniors through the Intergenerational Games; offering free surgery on Saturday Surgery Day, hosting health education classes on diabetes, pregnancy, weight management, stroke; and fostering healthy eating with the New Roots Fresh Farm Community Garden.
Kaiser was also recognized as a Public Health Champion for free blood pressure screenings at the regional wellness Love Your Heart campaign and they have lead efforts to safeguard against prescription drug abuse.
Founded in 1945, Kaiser’s mission is to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of their members and the communities they serve. They currently serve more than 9 million members in nine states and the District of Columbia.
Kaiser Permanente began serving San Diego in 1967, and currently provides care for more than 550,000 members throughout the county. Their expert and caring medical teams are empowered and supported by industry-leading technology advances and tools for health promotion, disease prevention, state-of-the-art care delivery and world-class chronic disease management.
