San Diego State University (SDSU) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on March 9, 2016. Founded in 1897, SDSU is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region and serves over 35,000 students each year.
SDSU's goals for a safe and healthy campus align with Live Well San Diego's vision for San Diego. Since its formation in spring 2014, its “Live Well Aztecs” initiative has implemented and advanced programs, services and outreach to educate, support and inspire students, faculty and staff to lead healthy and balanced lives. These efforts have included educational events and workshops, campus walks, yoga and meditation classes, healthy living videos, safety day, healthy messaging around campus and a new website of resources that support well-being. The school is also a leader in research and outreach programs designed to combat childhood obesity.
Campus partners include Health Promotion, Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Residential Education from the Division of Student Affairs; Associated Students' Aztec Recreation; Human Resources and Public Safety in the Division of Business and Financial Affairs; and the College of Health and Human Services.
This partnership with Live Well San Diego was established through the University’s demonstrated leadership in promoting healthy policies and engaging in a multitude of education and health service programs. San Diego State University will continue to support the Live Well San Diego vision by continuing to serve their students, faculty, and the community as they have for nearly 120 years.
