Access Inc. joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on October 19, 2018. The non-profit organization was created in 1967 to address President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty and support the resettlement of Southeast Asian refugees during the Vietnam War. Since then Access Inc. has continued to provide access to education, workforce training, and supportive services to the most vulnerable and under-served populations in San Diego County through three foundational programs - Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), Adult Education/Plaza Comunitaria, and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
The WIOA program provides San Diego County out-of-school youth (ages 16 – 24) with comprehensive workforce development resources such as work readiness training, industry recognized certifications, career exploration, paid internships, education support and career coaching. The WIOA program focuses on engaging underrepresented groups in the San Diego economic priority sectors: Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Energy, Healthcare, Information and Communication Technologies (CIS), and Life Sciences. The Adult Education/Plaza Comunitaria program provides primary and secondary education, English as a second language, computer literacy career exploration academies and microenterprise development to Mexican Immigrants. The VAWA provides legal and supportive services to over 200 immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and violent crimes annually.
