Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on September 24, 2014. The Food Bank is the single largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County; serving an estimated 370,000 people per month last year – including working-poor families, fixed-income seniors, elementary school children living in poverty, and 28,000 low-income, active-duty military personnel and their dependents.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank became a Live Well San Diego partner through their emphasis on food security and nutrition as an important element in well-being, with participation in programs such as Healthy Options Healthy Meals, Choosing Healthy Options Program (CHOP), the Farm to Family Program, and Solving Obesity and Nutritional Disease Affecting Seniors (SONDAS). The Food Bank strives to increase the nutritional value of the food it distributes and to promote health and well-being among its client population in order to prevent nutrition-related illnesses such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes – especially among the children and seniors it serves. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 22 million pounds of food to individuals and families in need in San Diego County. Of that number, 37% was fresh produce, totaling 8.2 million pounds.

The San Diego Food Bank is a countywide grassroots organization working with 330 nonprofits in San Diego County with feeding programs and a first-responder for the County of San Diego and the San Diego Red Cross.  As a recognized partner, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank will continue their work in food security to help local communities thrive.
