On December 10, 2013, the City of San Diego was designated a Live Well San Diego Recognized Partner City because of efforts to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Under the leadership of interim Mayor Todd Gloria, improvements in infrastructure and land-use encourage walking, biking and taking public transit. Public safety is also a top priority. By working closely with the County of San Diego, crime rates are low and emergency crews are prepared to protect in the event of fires or other disasters. Homelessness is also getting focused attention through “Project 25” - an effort which brings intensive support to the mentally ill and homeless populations by getting them off the streets and providing a safe haven. The residents of San Diego can rest assured the City is committed to promoting positive choices so everyone can lead healthier, safer and happier lives.
